The countdown has begun
The countdown to the referendum has begun. After months of unnecessary delay, Alex Salmond has finally revealed the date where we will be asked to make the biggest decision in the history of our country.
We now know the question, we now know the date and we even know the date that the Nationalists would like to throw a party to celebrate their victory. It is a shame that the most important information of all is still, sadly, missing. What would going it alone mean for our jobs, our public services and our pensions?
We now have just over 545 days to go to win the arguments and win the referendum. We have already made huge strides. We have exposed the fantasy that sits at the heart of many of the nationalist claims. We now know the truth they were hiding on Europe and we know that there is a massive difference between what Alex Salmond and John Swinney discuss in private about our economy and what they are trying to sell to us.
However, we cannot for one minute assume that we have done enough. The nationalists know that they only have to win once. They know that they have to win by only one vote. We have to do everything we can to stop them buying Scotland a one way ticket to a deeply uncertain destination.
We know that the nationalists have an enormous war chest of money. They have huge donations swelling their coffers. Over the next year and a half they will spend big to try and divide us from our friends and families.
Sadly, this means that we too have to spend money. This means that we have to raise as much as we can over the coming weeks and months.
That is why our message to you today is to ask you to consider making a donation to the campaign. I know that times are tough and I know that people don’t have very much money to spare. However, anything you give will be used to win this campaign.
The clock is now ticking. Every day we get closer to the biggest decision you and I will ever be asked to make. I hope that we can count on you to get involved.
